Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Still hampered by injury
Tremble (hip) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
Tremble sat out the Panthers' Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers with the injury and will likely need to upgrade to full practice participation Thursday or Friday to guarantee his availability for Sunday's game against the Saints. Before missing the game against Tampa Bay, Tremble had played more than 70 percent of the offensive snaps in both of the previous two games in the absence of Hayden Hurst (concussion). Hurst joined Tremble as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, so the statuses of both tight ends will be worth tracking as Sunday's contest approaches.

Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Logs limited session Thursday
Tremble (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
The third-year tight end out of Notre Dame was unable to suit up for Carolina's Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers after not participating in two of the team's practices earlier that week. Tremble's injury designation will be something to look out for going forward, as the Panthers could very well be without both Hayden Hurst (concussion) and Stephen Sullivan (shoulder) in Week 14.

Tremble (hip) is inactive for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
With Hayden Hurst embedded in the concussion protocol and Tremble also sidelined Sunday, the Panthers will roll with Ian Thomas and Stephen Sullivan as their tight ends. Tremble managed just one limited practice during Week 13 prep, so he likely will need to increase his activity level in order to have a chance to play next Sunday at New Orleans.

Tremble played more than three-fourths of Carolina's offensive snaps the past two weeks with Hayden Hurst in concussion protocol, only to suffer an injury of his own toward the end of last week's loss to the Titans. With Hurst out again and Tremble also expected to sit, Ian Thomas and Stephen Sullivan are set up to take most of Carolina's tight end snaps. Neither Thomas nor Sullivan has much of a track record of converting playing time into targets, though the same can be said of Tremble.

The third-year tight end seems to be trending in the right direction to play this weekend, as he's gone from logging a DNP at Wednesday's practice to a limited session Thursday. Tremble has appeared in all 11 games for Carolina thus far, catching 13 of his 16 targets for 84 yards and three touchdowns. With Hayden Hurst (concussion) missing his second consecutive practice Thursday, Tremble's status for Sunday's contest will be something to look out for.

Tremble didn't practice Wednesday due to a hip injury.
Hayden Hurst (concussion) was also missing from practice, and his absence for the Panthers' past two games has allowed Tremble to play more than 70 percent of Carolina's snaps on offense on both occasions. Tremble left Sunday's loss to Tennessee in the fourth quarter and now isn't practicing, while Hurst remains in concussion protocol. Ian Thomas and Stephen Sullivan are Carolina's healthy tight ends on the 53-man roster at the moment.

Tremble caught one of three targets for four yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Cowboys.
Tremble has been one of very few bright spots for the Panthers this season. Although he's made merely 12 catches through 10 games, three of those have been touchdowns. In fact, top wideout Adam Thielen -- who boasts 76 receptions -- sports only one more touchdown than Tremble as Carolina's leader in the category.

Tremble again led Carolina's tight ends in snaps, but teammate Hayden Hurst was more productive, catching two of four targets for 54 yards. Through eight games, Tremble now sports eight grabs on nine looks for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

The third-year tight end elevated to catch a one-yard TD from Bryce Young late in the first quarter, Tremble's second score of the season. Those are also his only two red-zone targets of the year, but with Young showing signs of progress in recent weeks and veteran TE Hayden Hurst offering little as a pass catcher, Tremble could work his way into a bigger role in the offense over the second half.

Tremble took Detroit by surprise to leak free for an easy score off play action. While that helped Carolina cut the deficit to begin the second quarter, the fact Tremble has only been targeted twice through five games evidences his rare usage in the passing game.
