  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Optimistic for late-season return

Hicks (shin) told reporters Thursday that he's optimistic about returning late in the Vikings' season, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Hicks suffered a shin injury -- one that was subsequently further diagnosed as compartment syndrome -- during Minnesota's Week 11 win over the Saints, and he's been on injured reserve for the team's last two games. The veteran linebacker affirmed the comments that defensive coordinator Brian Flores made Tuesday, telling reporters that Hicks has a shot to return before the end of the season. Hicks must remain on IR for at least two more weeks before he can assume the Vikings' top inside linebacker duties once again.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Could make late-season return

Defensive coordinator Brian Flores told reporters Tuesday that there's some optimism that Hicks (shin) could return before the end of the regular season, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

The Vikings' top inside linebacker was placed on injured reserve in mid-November after suffering a shin injury during Week 10's win over the Saints. Hicks had been having one of the best seasons of his long career, as he was averaging 8.7 stops per game over Minnesota's first 10 outings, which would be his best output since 2019. The 31-year-old has missed the Vikings' last two games, and if he's able to return to the field at some point this season, the earliest he can suit up would be Week 16.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Shifts to IR

The Vikings placed Hicks (shin) on injured reserve Tuesday.

Hicks' move to IR comes after he required an emergency surgical procedure Sunday to alleviate "compartment syndrome" related to a shin contusion he suffered in the Vikings' win over the Saints earlier in the day, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic. The standout linebacker has since been released from the hospital, but he'll be sidelined for at least the Vikings' next four games while he recovers. His absence should pave the way for Ivan Pace to serve as the Vikings' defensive play caller, while Troy Dye and practice-squad signee Anthony Barr look like the top candidates to fill Hicks' vacated snaps at linebacker. Through Minnesota's first 10 games, he tallied 87 tackles, one sack, one interception, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Leaves hospital

Hicks was released from the hospital Tuesday after undergoing surgery Sunday to alleviate swelling in his lower leg due to compartment syndrome, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Hicks has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos, but his release from the hospital should be good news for his recovery moving forward. It's still unclear how much time, if any, the 31-year-old may miss beyond Week 11.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Won't return this week

Hicks (lower leg) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Hicks underwent a procedure to reduce swelling of his right leg due to compartment syndrome Sunday after the team's win over the Saints. It's unclear how much time the 31-year-old may miss, but he'll need at least a week to recover and remained in the hospital as of Tuesday morning recuperating.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Undergoes surgery

Hicks underwent a surgical procedure Sunday to relieve pressure in his lower leg, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Apparently, Hicks will likely need at least a week to recover, so it would seem he'll probably be sitting out in Week 11. If he does miss time, Troy Dye could be in line for an expanded role at inside linebacker.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Exits game with injury

Hicks (shin) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Saints, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Hicks appeared to have sustained the injury in the first quarter. He checked back into the game before exiting for a second time. Nick Vigil should see an uptick in defensive snaps as long as Hicks remains out.

  • Vikings' Jordan Hicks: Injures lower leg in win

Head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters after Sunday's 27-19 win over the Saints that Hicks sustained a lower leg contusion, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Hicks left the game in the first quarter but was able to return and finished with seven tackles (three solo). His participation in practice in the upcoming week will indicate Hick's availability for Week 11 against the Broncos, but the fact he was able to return to Sunday's game bodes well for his chances.
