Player Outlook
Etienne ascended into a consistent Fantasy producer in Year 2 after a slow first six weeks. Etienne had four top-seven weekly finishes in PPR and he was the eighth-best running back from Weeks 7-17 in non-PPR. Consistency wasn't Etienne's forte, however, and he finished outside the top 24 eight times. Etienne's Fantasy stock has risen heading into 2023 with the expectation that he'll score more in an offense that is one of the most likely to break out, but there are two major red flags in his profile. He had the fifth-most carries (23) inside the 10-yard line but he only scored on four of them in 2022. Rookie RB Tank Bigsby is built to be a better red-zone back and could take that role over immediately. Also, although billed as a receiving threat, Etienne wasn't involved much in the passing game in 2022 and his target share could slip more with Calvin Ridley added to the mix. If you buy the Jaguars offense breaking out and want a main piece, target Etienne early in Round 3.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Maintains limited practice activity

Etienne (ribs) was a limited practice participant Thursday. Etienne doesn't appear to be any worse for the wear coming out of Monday's 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals, despite being listed as questionable with the rib issue leading up to the contest before handling 15 touches (11 carries, four receptions) and accounting for 79 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown over his 43 snaps. The Jaguars have put a cap on Etienne's practice reps for both of their first two Week 14 practices, but there's been no indication that his restrictions are the result of any setback. He may still carry a designation into this weekend's game in Cleveland if he remains a limited participant in Friday's practice, but Etienne is still expected to be ready to lead the Jacksonville backfield come Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Still dealing with rib injury

Etienne (ribs) was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Etienne played through the same injury Monday against Cincinnati, taking 15 touches for 79 yards and a touchdown in a game that saw quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffer a high-ankle sprain. The Jaguars haven't ruled Lawrence out for Sunday's game against Cleveland, but that could end up happening later in the week. If so, Etienne might be leaned on even more than usual, albeit within the context of a weaker-than-usual offense that's missing Lawrence, wideout Christian Kirk (core) and potentially left tackle Walker Little (hamstring).

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Scores TD prior to Lawrence injury

Etienne (ribs) rushed 11 times for 45 yards and a touchdown while catching all four of his targets for 34 yards in Monday's 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals. Etienne capped Jacksonville's first drive with a four-yard rushing touchdown but finished with his second-fewest rushing attempts and third-fewest rushing yards of the season, perhaps due to the lingering effects of the rib injury that limited his practice participation heading into the game. Trevor Lawrence (ankle) accounted for the team's next three scores with two passing touchdowns and a quarterback sneak prior to exiting in the fourth quarter. Etienne's 19-yard catch on a pass from backup quarterback C.J. Beathard helped set up a game-tying field goal in the final minute of regulation, but the Bengals kicked a game-winning field goal after Jacksonville failed to score on the first drive of overtime, dropping the Jaguars to 8-4 heading into a Week 14 road game against the Browns.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Suits up Monday night

Etienne (ribs) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Bengals. After logging limited practices this past week, Etienne was listed as questionable ahead of the contest, though coach Doug Pederson told Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com on Saturday that he expected his top running back -- who recorded 20 carries for 56 yards and four catches for 30 yards in the Jaguars' Week 12 win over the Texans -- to be available Monday. Now that his active status has been confirmed, Etienne should continue to pace Jacksonville's backfield versus Cincinnati, with D'Ernest Johnson and Tank Bigsby on hand to mix in should Etienne deal with any in-game setbacks or limitations.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Questionable, expected to play

Etienne (ribs) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Bengals, but head coach Doug Pederson is expecting the running back to play, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports. The injury designation leaves open the possibility Etienne could miss the primetime matchup, but Pederson seemed relatively confident following Saturday's practice the third-year back would be available. Expect the backup, D'Ernest Johnson, to still be a factor in the game plan, particularly if the Jaguars jump out to a commanding lead early on. Official confirmation regarding Etienne's status will arrive upon the release of Jacksonville's inactives ahead of the team's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff Monday.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Another limited practice Friday

Etienne (ribs) remained limited at practice Friday. Etienne will have one more chance to upgrade to full participation and avoid the final injury report Saturday before the Jaguars host the Bengals on Monday Night Football. He briefly left the Week 12 win over Houston in the first half with what was deemed a chest injury at the time, but Etienne promptly returned and handled his usual heavy workload, finishing with 86 yards from scrimmage on 24 touches. If Etienne's volume is impacted Monday, D'Ernest Johnson and possibly Tank Bigsby would be in line for additional touches against a Bengals defense that's allowing 4.6 yards per carry.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Limited by rib issue

Etienne was listed as a limited participant at practice Thursday due to a rib injury. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson told Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union earlier Thursday that Etienne was day-to-day with a chest injury, but Mia O'Brien of 1010 XL 92.5 FM Jacksonville confirms that the running back is indeed managing a rib issue. Etienne now has two more chances to increase his practice participation ahead of Monday's game against the Bengals, but O'Brien notes that the Jaguars' leading rusher sounded encouraged Thursday regarding his Week 13 availability.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Day-to-day with chest injury

Coach Doug Pederson said Thursday that Etienne (chest) is day-to-day, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. Pederson said Etienne will practice Thursday, which is a positive sign. The elusive running back managed to play through his chest injury during Sunday's 24-21 win over the Texans, though he briefly left the field in the first half. Fantasy managers will need to closely monitor Etienne's practice reps heading into Monday's primetime matchup against the Bengals. If Etienne ends up missing any time due to the injury, veteran D'Ernest Johnson and rookie Tank Bigsby could get a chance to show what they can do with a significant backfield workload.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Inefficient after injury scare

Etienne rushed 20 times for 56 yards while catching four of six targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Texans. Etienne exited for a few minutes in the first half to be evaluated for a chest injury, per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, but he returned to the game and was stuffed from the 1-yard line on the final play before halftime. Jacksonville worked it down to the 1-yard line again in the third quarter, and Etienne was again denied on first-and-goal before the Jaguars went to the air for a go-ahead Calvin Ridley touchdown. Etienne has at least 17 touches in nine of 11 games as the clear top option in Jacksonville's backfield; however, he has exceeded 56 rushing yards only once in his last six games heading into a Week 13 home contest against the Bengals on Monday Night Football.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Held to 57 total yards

Etienne rushed the ball 14 times for 52 yards in Sunday's 34-14 win over the Titans. He added three receptions on three targets for seven yards. Both matchup and game script combined to work against Etienne in the easy win, as the Titans' defense tilts opposing offenses to the air. As a result, Trevor Lawrence attempted 19 passes in the first half while the Jaguars jumped out to a two-score lead. While playing from ahead and running out the clock, Jacksonville then elected to get Tank Bigsby significantly involved in the final two quarters. That left Etienne with another unproductive game, as he has picked up only 103 total yards combined across the last two weeks, though he should see more involvement in a Week 12 divisional showdown with the Texans.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Checks back into Week 8 game

Etienne returned to Sunday's game against the Steelers after leaving for a brief spell in the third quarter to be evaluated for an ankle injury, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports. After limping off the field on the Jaguars' first possession of the third quarter, Etienne headed into the medical tent on the sideline to get his ankle checked out. Tank Bigsby came off the bench and fumbled on his third carry of the drive, but Etienne received the green light to return to the field on the Jaguars' ensuing possession. Etienne looks like he'll be able to finish the game as Jacksonville's top back, and the team's upcoming Week 9 bye should afford him some extra time for his ankle to heal up.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Injures ankle, return uncertain

Etienne was diagnosed with an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Steelers and is questionable to return. Etienne carried 15 times for 61 yards and caught one of two targets for an 11-yard gain before limping off the field following a play on the Jaguars' first possession of the second half. The extent of his ankle injury isn't known, but if Etienne is unable to finish the contest, the Jaguars will get by with Tank Bigsby, D'Ernest Johnson and JaMycal Hasty as their running backs for the rest of the day.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Two more touchdowns in win

Etienne rushed 14 times for 53 yards and two touchdowns and secured three of five targets for 24 yards in the Jaguars' 31-24 win over the Saints on Thursday night. Etienne found the end zone from two and 17 yards out in the first and second quarters, respectively, giving him his third consecutive multi-touchdown game. The third-year back did often find running room at a premium against a tough Saints defensive front seven, as he gained just 36 yards on the 13 other carries outside of his second scoring scamper. Etienne has been at 55 rushing yards or less in three of his last four games, but his recent touchdown output has his fantasy stock surging heading into a Week 8 road matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 29.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Contained by Falcons

Etienne rushed 20 times for 55 yards and caught all three of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 23-7 win over the Falcons. Etienne struggled to find much room to run, with his long gain on the ground going for just seven yards. While he's yet to put together consecutive big games this season, Etienne garnered 23 touches for the third time in four appearances. His consistent role offers a decent floor ahead of the Bills' trip to London to play the Jags in Week 5.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Avoids injury report

Etienne (cramps) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report ahead of Sunday's game against Houston. Etienne missed out on a few snaps in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 17-9 loss to the Chiefs after experiencing cramping, though it probably didn't cost him many fantasy points with Jacksonville looking to throw at that point. He'll continue as the team's lead back in the home opener this Sunday after taking 30 of the 39 running back carries and eight of the 10 targets in two straight road games to start the season. Etienne's 76 percent snap share through two weeks is similar to what he handled in most games last season after the Jaguars traded James Robinson to the Jets.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Battles cramps late in Week 2 loss

Etienne (cramps) rushed 12 times for 40 yards and caught two of three targets for two yards in Sunday's 17-9 loss to Kansas City but dealt with cramps in the fourth quarter, Mia O'Brien of the Jaguars' official site reports. Etienne nearly enjoyed a monopoly on touches out of the backfield while in the game, as D'Ernest Johnson accounted for only one carry and one target, while Tank Bigsby didn't register a touch. If his issue was indeed related to cramping, Etienne's availability for a juicy Week 3 matchup with the Texans shouldn't be impacted, but the starting running back's practice status during the week will be worth monitoring.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Scores in preseason finale

Etienne rushed eight times for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' 31-18 preseason win over the Dolphins on Saturday night. Etienne finished the Jaguars' second drive with a three-yard touchdown run, putting a cap on a successful preseason. The 2021 first-round pick should be the focal point of Jacksonville's ground attack right from the start of the season after racking up 1,125 rushing yards and five touchdowns and adding 316 receiving yards over 17 games a year ago, although rookie Tank Bigsby should also enjoy a solid complementary role.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Improvements noted by coach

Jaguars running back coach Bernie Parmalee indicates that he's seen improvements from Etienne as the 2023 season approaches, Alessandra Pontbriand of news4jax.com reports. "Really his all-around game (has improved)," Parmalee noted Wednesday of the 2021 first-rounder. "His reads, which he has done a phenomenal job this year. Pass (protection), he has really taken that to a new level." After missing his entire rookie campaign due to a foot injury, Etienne played in all 17 regular-season games in 2022 en route to logging 220 carries for 1,125 yards and five TDs to go along with 35 catches (on 45 targets) for 316 yards. This coming season, the 24-year-old remains entrenched atop a Jacksonville RB depth chart that also includes rookie third-rounder Tank Bigsby, JaMycal Hasty, D'Ernest Johnson and Snoop Conner. In that context, an uptick in production from Etienne in his third year as a pro is plausible, considering his big-play potential in the team's Trevor Lawrence-helmed offense.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Plays well in playoff loss

Etienne rushed the ball 10 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-20 loss to the Chiefs. He added three receptions for 18 yards. Etienne paced the Jaguars' backfield in touches, though their gameplan quickly became pass-heavy as the team attempted to keep pace with the Chiefs. Despite the limited volume, Etienne still was a spark in the offense, particularly early in the fourth quarter when he found the end zone on a four-yard rush. His receiving volume remained underwhelming, though Etienne managed three receptions for the third time in his last five games. He will now look toward his third NFL season, and he should be expected to serve as Jacksonville's lead back in 2023.

  • Jaguars' Travis Etienne: Tops century mark in postseason win

Etienne rushed the ball 20 times for 109 yards in Saturday's 31-30 wild-card round win over the Chargers. He added one reception for 12 yards. Etienne had limited opportunity in the first half, as the Jaguars struggled offensively. However, he produced consistently with the ball in his hands and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. His performance was highlighted by a 25-yard gain on a game-deciding fourth down play with just under two minutes remaining in the game. After seeing only 16 carries combined across his previous two games, Etienne showed the ability to serve as a workhorse back in the Jaguars' comeback win.
