  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Likely kicking for another week

Ammendola will likely serve as the Texans' kicker Sunday against the Jets, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadricep) is eligible to return from injured reserve this week after missing the Texans' last four contests, but the kicker doesn't look as though he's made enough progress in his recovery yet to be ready to play Sunday. As a result, the 26-year-old Ammendola appears set for a fifth straight turn as Houston's kicker. In his first four games with the team, Ammendola has knocked down all 10 of his point-after tries and six of nine field-goal attempts, with two of those misses coming from beyond 50 yards.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Ten points in win

Ammendola converted all three field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point try in Sunday's 22-17 win over the Broncos in Week 13. Ammendola nailed three chip shots from 29, 38 and 38 yards and recorded a second double-digit performance in four weeks as a replacement for Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps). It's looking like Fairbairn may return Week 14, so Ammendola's stretch of fantasy relevance may be coming to end.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Elevated Saturday

Ammendola was elevated to the Texans' active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. This will mark Ammendola's fourth consecutive game as Houston's kicker. He has gone 3-of-6 on field-goal attempts and 9-of-9 on extra-points. The anticipation is Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) will be activated next week as the team's eighth and final designated return. Thus, this should be Ammendola's final elevation.

  • Matt Ammendola: Back on Houston's practice squad

Ammendola signed with Houston's practice squad Wednesday. With Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) still on injured reserve for at least one more week, Ammendola is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to serve as Houston's kicker Sunday against the Broncos. Ammendola was waived from the Texans' active roster Monday after missing both of his field-goal attempts in a 24-21 loss to Jacksonville in Week 12, though one of the misses was a 58-yard attempt that caromed off the crossbar in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

  • Matt Ammendola: Cut by Houston

The Texans waived Ammendola on Monday. The move, which occurred after Ammendola missed both of his field-goal tries and all three of his point-after attempts in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars, opens room on the roster for defensive end Derek Barnett, whom the Texans claimed off waivers Monday. However, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston notes that Ammendola is expected to join Houston's practice squad, assuming he clears waivers. If that's the case, Ammendola could remain the Texans' kicker for its Week 13 matchup with the Broncos while Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadricep) remains on injured reserve for at least one more game.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Misses lone FGA

Ammendola missed his lone field-goal attempt and converted all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Cardinals in Week 11. Ammendola was wide left from 48 yards out in the third quarter, his first miss in four tries since becoming the fill-in placekicker for Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps). There were other potential scoring opportunities, but quarterback C.J. Stroud threw two red-zone interceptions in the second half. The Texans are tied for fourth in the NFL with 24 field-goal attempts, so there's potential fantasy value to starting Ammendola. The kicking duties figure to remain his at through Week 13, at minimum.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Signs with active roster

The Texans signed Ammendola to their active roster Saturday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. As expected, Ammendola will operate as Houston's kicker in Week 11 after signing with the team's active roster Saturday. The 26-year-old had no problems stepping in for the injured Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) last week, as he converted on all six of his attempted kicks (three field goals and three extra points).

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: No issues replacing Fairbairn

Ammendola converted three of three field-goal attempts and all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Bengals in Week 10. Ammendola was added to the active roster after Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) landed on injured reserve, and the kicking game didn't miss a beat. Regardless of which kicker is active, Houston's offense sets up kickers to succeed. The Texans rank sixth in the NFL with 23 field-goal attempts, and the kickers have converted 22.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Set to fill in

Ammendola will be elevated to the Texans' active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Ammendola will fill in Ka'imi Fairbairn, who likely will miss a couple of games due to a strained quadriceps. Ammendola, a third-year kicker, last played two games with the Cardinals and Chiefs respectively in 2022, converting five of his seven field-goal attempts, but nothing longer than 40 yards.

  • Matt Ammendola: Finds new opportunity

The Packers signed Ammendola to their practice squad Tuesday, per the team's official site. After having suited up for both Kansas City and Arizona earlier this season, Ammendola is now slated to serve as Green Bay's backup kicker behind Mason Crosby. The 26-year-old has gone 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts across his four game appearances this year.

  • Matt Ammendola: Stint with Arizona over

The Cardinals waived Ammendola on Monday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. In a corresponding move, DeAndre Hopkins was reinstated from his six-week suspension. The move suggests regular starting kicker Matt Prater (hip) is nearing a return ahead of Thursday's game versus New Orleans, but Arizona will now have to find another option if that's not the case.

  • Matt Ammendola: Heads back to practice squad

Ammendola reverted to the Cardinals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Ammendola signed with Arizona's practice squad last Tuesday and was activated ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles with starting kicker Matt Prater (hip) sidelined. After making both his PATs and a field goal during the first four quarters against Philadelphia, the 25-year-old missed a game-tying 43-yard field-goal attempt with 22 seconds remaining. Ammendola has now gone 4-for-6 on field-goal tries and 2-for-3 on extra-point attempts over three games with Kansas City and Arizona this season.

  • Matt Ammendola: Joins Arizona's practice squad

The Cardinals signed Ammendola to their practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Ammendola recently filled in for Harrison Butker (ankle), but after he missed a field goal and an extra point in his second game, the Chiefs opted to go with practice-squad kicker Matthew Wright and terminated Ammendola's contract. However, the Oklahoma State product quickly got another opportunity with the Cardinals, who may be without Matt Prater (hip) for Week 5.

  • Chiefs' Matt Ammendola: To fill in for Butker again

Ammendola is slated to be the Chiefs' placekicker Sunday at Indianapolis with Harrison Butker (ankle) unavailable for a second game in a row, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Butker sprained his left ankle in the season opener and hasn't practiced or played in the meantime. Ammendola filled in for the six-year pro Week 2 against the Chargers, making both field-goal attempts and all three of his point-after tries. Considering he's attached to the high-power Kansas City offense, Ammendola is a decent fill-in option for as long as Butker is sidelined.

  • Matt Ammendola: Fills in admirably in Week 2

Ammendola nailed two of two field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries during Thursday's 27-24 victory versus the Chargers. Ammendola made a spot appearance for the Chiefs with Harrison Butker (ankle) out of commission Thursday and made the most of the opportunity. While Kansas City may move on from him once Butker is clear of injury, Ammendola likely will stick around on the team's practice squad until Butker is healthy.

  • Matt Ammendola: Will kick for Chiefs on Thursday

Ammendola is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to handle kicking duties for the Chiefs during Thursday's matchup against the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Chiefs have ruled Harrison Butker (ankle) out for the contest, so Ammendola, who was signed to the practice squad Monday, will get an opportunity to make his Kansas City debut. The Oklahoma State product attempted 19 field goals for the Jets in 2021, making all 11 of his tries within 40 yards but just two of eight tries from 40-plus yards. He lacks Butker's experience and reliability, but Ammendola will benefit from being attached to one of the top offenses in football, making him a viable Week 2 steaming option.

  • Matt Ammendola: Joins Chiefs' practice squad

Kansas City signed Ammendola to its practice squad Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The Chiefs' regular kicker, Harrison Butker, is still dealing with the ankle sprain he played through Sunday at Arizona, so Ammendola was added as a backup plan in case Butker can't play Thursday versus the Chargers. Ammendola attempted 19 field goals for the Jets in 2021, making 11 of 11 from within 40 yards but just two of eight from 40-plus yards out.

  • Texans' Matt Ammendola: Signs with Texans

Ammendola was signed by the Texans on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Ammendola will join the Texans a short-term replacement for Ka'imi Fairbairn (undisclosed), who's not expected to play in Thursday's preseason finale. Ammendola was waived by the Jets in March after he went 13-for-19 on field goals over 11 games with the team last year.

  • Jets' Matt Ammendola: Job on notice

Ammendola could be at risk of losing his spot on the roster after head coach Robert Saleh hinted at the possibility of the Jets working out other kickers this week, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports. Ammendola missed field-goal attempts of 55 and 40 yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins and now has missed four kicks in total over the past five weeks. Given the struggles of the Jets offense to consistently produce touchdowns on a weekly basis, having a reliable option in the kicking game is essential, and Ammendola's 69 percent success rate on field-goal attempts isn't getting the job done. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old rookie, he doesn't have an NFL track record to fall back on, which could make it easier for the Jets to pull the plug on him than if he were a struggling veteran.

  • Jets' Matt Ammendola: Just one FG attempt again

Ammendola made a 48-yard field goal on his only attempt and added a pair of PATs in Sunday's 45-17 loss to the Bills. Quarterback Mike White turned back into a pumpkin with four interceptions, and the Jets mustered just three points over the first three quarters after totaling 64 over the previous two games. This offense is too inconsistent to trust Ammendola in standard formats most weeks.
