Player Outlook
We are ranking Smith as a high-end No. 2 quarterback worthy of a pick in the double-digit rounds, but it wouldn't be the first time we have underestimated him. Lest you think that Smith's surprising 2022 was just about Fantasy success, he had the lowest number of off-target throws in the NFL and led the league in completion percentage despite the fact that his air yards per attempt were near league average. Smith was a legitimately good passer in 2022 and now he's added arguably the best wide receiver in the 2023 class to a group that already included DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. If Jaxon Smith-Njigba lives up to his hype and Smith plays at the level he did last year, he'll be a top-10 Fantasy QB and analysts will be eating their hats again.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Dealing with groin issue

Smith was limited at Thursday's practice due to a groin injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Smith avoided the Seahawks' first Week 14 practice report Wednesday, so his addition to the list one day later puts the spotlight on Friday to help determine if he may be in danger of sitting out Sunday in San Francisco. He's coming off his fourth 300-yard passing performance of the season last Thursday at Dallas, but he also mustered just 180 yards, no touchdowns and one interception on 18-for-27 passing when Seattle hosted the 49ers back in Week 12.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Sit

Smith was amazing and one of the best surprises in Week 13 at Dallas with a season-best 35.9 Fantasy points. He passed for 334 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, and he also ran for a score. It was impressive, but keep in mind what happened the week before. In Week 12 against San Francisco, Smith scored a season-low 7.3 Fantasy points with 180 passing yards, no touchdowns and one interception, along with 21 rushing yards. In three games as the starter for the Seahawks against the 49ers, Smith has combined for 30.7 Fantasy points. I like Smith against Philadelphia in Week 15 and Tennessee in Week 16, which are favorable opponents, but this is a good week to sit him in most formats.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Loses high-scoring duel to Dak

Smith completed 23 of 41 passes for 334 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Seahawks' 41-35 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night. He also rushed twice for six yards and another score. Smith put up a stat line befitting a victory, but a trio of late stalled drives helped scuttle that outcome. However, the veteran signal-caller still finished with a highly fantasy-friendly performance, connecting with DK Metcalf for touchdown passes of 73, one and three yards while adding a five-yard scoring scamper of his own early in the third quarter. However, Smith completed just six of his 15 pass attempts over the aforementioned final three possessions, with what appeared to be a miscommunication in Seattle's blocking scheme on fourth down with 1:07 remaining forcing him to get rid of the ball much sooner than he would have liked and sealing Dallas' win. Despite the undesirable outcome, Smith did record his fourth 300-yard game of the campaign and fifth multi-touchdown effort as well, while his rushing score was his first of the season. Next up for Smith and the Seahawks is a Week 14 road rematch against the 49ers that will be critical to Seattle's postseason hopes.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Sit

It's hard to sit Smith in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues this week with six teams on a bye, but I don't like this matchup for him at Dallas. The Cowboys have only allowed three quarterbacks this season to score more than 19 Fantasy points (Brock Purdy in Week 5, Justin Herbert in Week 6 and Jalen Hurts in Week 9), and I don't expect Smith to join that group. He has only two games this season with more than 17.9 Fantasy points, and he's scored fewer than 16 Fantasy points in four road games in a row against the Giants, Bengals, Ravens and Rams. This should be another ugly game for Smith in Week 13.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Struggles in tough matchup

Smith (elbow) completed 18 of 27 passes for 180 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added four rushes for 21 yards in the Seahawks' 31-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night. Smith was able to play through his triceps contusion but put up unsurprisingly underwhelming numbers against the suffocating 49ers defense. Smith was relatively efficient overall, but he took six sacks and was only able to connect with top targets DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett a combined six times for 62 yards. The veteran signal-caller saw his streak of games with a touchdown pass end at two games, and Thursday marked his fourth sub-200-yard tally of the campaign. Smith's arm should be healthier for a Week 13 road matchup against the Cowboys next Thursday night.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Active in Week 12

Smith (elbow) is listed as active Thursday versus the 49ers. During this past Sunday's loss at the Rams, Smith missed the final snap of the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter due to a right elbow injury. The official diagnosis was revealed to be a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his right triceps by coach Pete Carroll on Monday, and Smith proceeded to be listed as DNP/LP/FP during Week 12 prep. Carroll relayed to Colin Gunther of the Seahawks' official site Wednesday that Smith was "ready to go" for Thursday's game, and now that has been confirmed. Smith thus will take aim at San Francisco's 15th-ranked pass defense (221.4 yards per game).

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Status in question for Thursday

Smith (elbow) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game versus the 49ers, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports. Smith took a big hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald on the second-to-last play of the third quarter in Sunday's loss in Los Angeles, but he was able to return for the Seahawks' final possession, leading them into position for a potential game-winning field goal from Jason Myers. The kick was missed, and Smith proceeded to be listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice report. He mixed into drills as a limited participant at Tuesday's walk-through session and now has a chance to play Thursday. Both the quarterback and head coach Pete Carroll have seemed optimistic about Smith's chances to suit up Week 12, but Smith's availability won't be confirmed until Seattle releases its inactive list approximately 90 minutes before the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. If Smith isn't available, Drew Lock will lead Seattle's offense.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Bumps up to limited Tuesday

Smith (elbow) was listed as limited on Tuesday's injury report, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. After opening Week 12 prep with a DNP listing Monday, Smith was able to mix into drills one day later as he deals with a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his right triceps. Officially, the Seahawks are calling it a right elbow injury, and the quarterback told Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times on Tuesday that he feels "a little bit better after a couple of days." Per Brady Henderson of ESPN.com, coach Pete Carroll seems optimistic about Smith's chances to play in Week 12, but that may not be confirmed until closer to Thursday's 8:20 p.m. EST kickoff.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Listed as DNP on Monday

Smith (elbow) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Smith was on the receiving end of a hard hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald on Sunday that sent him to the sideline late in the third quarter through the Seahawks' final offensive possession, when he led the team into L.A. territory, only for Seattle kicker Jason Myers to miss a game-winning 55-yard field goal. Afterward, coach Pete Carroll told Boyle that Smith suffered a bruised elbow, but it was clarified Monday as a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his triceps, as Carroll told Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. Carroll does expect Smith to be able to suit up Thursday against the 49ers, but he may not get any practice reps until Wednesday, at the earliest, Carroll told Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune. If Smith is unable to go, though, Drew Lock would handle QB duties for the Seahawks.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Optimism for Thursday

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he expects Smith (triceps/elbow) to suit up for Thursday's game against the 49ers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. Smith suffered a contusion to the tendon at the bottom of his triceps on his right arm, per Henderson, but the quarterback is expected to play through the issue Week 12. Any negative impact to Smith's accuracy against San Francisco's stout defense could, of course, prove significant, especially on a short week. As such, it will be worth monitoring Smith's status closely in practice.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Dealing with elbow bruise

Head coach Pete Carroll announced that Smith is dealing with a bruised elbow sustained in Sunday's narrow loss to the Rams, putting his status for Thursday's contest against the 49ers in jeopardy, according to Seahawks senior reporter John Boyle. Smith injured his elbow late in Sunday's contest, but he re-entered the game after backup Drew Lock threw an interception in his stead. The veteran starter made a valiant effort to get his team into field-goal range before kicker Jason Myers missed the attempt from 55 yards out. Smith finished the game completing 22 of 34 pass attempts for 233 yards and a touchdown. It sounds like Smith avoided a major injury to his throwing elbow, but his status is still uncertain for Week 11 with the Seahawks scheduled to face the 49ers on Thursday Night Football. If Smith isn't deemed ready following Seattle's upcoming short week of practice, then Lock would get the starting nod against San Francisco's revamped pass rush Thursday.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Leaves Sunday's game early

Smith departed Sunday's game at the Rams due to an elbow injury. On the second-to-last play of the third quarter, Smith left the field after taking a big hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Smith went directly to the sideline tent, yielding the Seahawks offense to backup quarterback Drew Lock. At the time of his departure, Smith had completed 19 of 29 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown and also rushed one time for minus-1 yard.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Sit

Smith ended his slump of six games in a row with 17.9 Fantasy points or less in Week 10 against Washington when he scored 28.1 points in a 29-26 victory. Smith had a season-high 47 attempts, which resulted in a season-best 369 yards, and he didn't have an interception for the first time since Week 4. This week, he gets a rematch with the Rams, who held him to 11.1 Fantasy points in Week 1. He should perform better than that in Week 11, but Smith has scored fewer than 12 Fantasy points in three consecutive road games at the Giants, Bengals and Ravens. I would only start Smith in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in this matchup.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Ends slump with huge passing day

Smith completed 31 of 47 pass attempts for 369 yards and two touchdowns while adding 13 rushing yards on one attempt in Sunday's 29-26 win over Washington. Last year's Comeback Player of the Year was forced to make another mini-comeback Sunday after stinking up the joint in last week's 37-3 loss to the Ravens. Smith wasted no time righting the ship with a pristine passing display from the jump that can only be rivaled by his dominant Week 2 performance against the Lions in an overtime thriller. The 33-year-old boosted his season totals to 2,171 passing yards with 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions through nine weeks. Smith will attempt to avenge an earlier loss to the Rams this season when the two NFC West foes meet in Los Angeles next Sunday.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Sleeper QBs

Smith is tough to trust in Week 10 given his level of play this season with only one game of more than 17.9 Fantasy points. But this should be a bounce-back spot against the Commanders at home. Washington is No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and only Josh Dobbs in Week 1 and Mac Jones last week failed to score at least 20 Fantasy points against the Commanders. If Smith can't be productive here then you're likely never going to start him again in one-quarterback leagues, but I'm expecting the matchup to make him a borderline starter in all leagues for Week 10.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Sit

Smith has not been a good Fantasy quarterback this season, and he's scored 17.8 Fantasy points or less in all but one game. I'm not expecting him to have a breakout performance in Week 8 against the Browns, who allow an average of just 15.5 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Cleveland just gave up a huge outing to Gardner Minshew in Week 7 (31.1 Fantasy points), and Lamar Jackson also had 32.9 Fantasy points against the Browns in Week 4. Both of those quarterbacks scored two rushing touchdowns against Cleveland, and Smith has done minimal damage with his legs this year (20 rushing yards or less in each game and no rushing scores). I would only start Smith in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 8.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Sleeper QBs

Smith had a rough game at Cincinnati in Week 6 with 323 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, along with 20 rushing yards. His 10.9 Fantasy points were a season-low, but hopefully he can rebound this week against Arizona. It's a beautiful matchup since the Cardinals are No. 5 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and three quarterbacks in the past five games have scored at least 23.2 points. The only concern I have with Smith is Seattle can run all over the Cardinals if they want with Kenneth Walker III since Arizona is also No. 3 in most Fantasy points allowed to running backs. But given the matchup at home, I like Smith as a low-end starter in all leagues.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

There is potential for Smith to register 200 yards and a couple of touchdowns as part of an easy day at the office. That might be really close to his ceiling, however, since the Cardinals, who have scored 20 or fewer points in three straight games, don't figure to compete on the scoreboard. Frankly, it wouldn't be terribly surprising if Smith had a game like what we saw in Week 4 against the Giants, but the offense should want to start working at becoming a little more explosive. I'm nervously starting Smith over Desmond Ridder, Russell Wilson and both Thursday night quarterbacks.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Two turnovers in loss

Smith completed 27 of 41 passes for 323 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Bengals. He added four rushes for 20 yards. Smith attempted exactly 41 passes for the second time this season. He averaged a solid 7.9 yards per attempt, and five of his completions went for more than 20 yards. However, his day was defined by two interceptions that changed the outcome of the game and prevented him from recording a touchdown for the first time this season. Lack of scores has become a trend for Smith, as despite throwing for over 295 yards in three of his five games, he has only five touchdowns on the campaign.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Sleeper QBs

Deshaun Watson in Week 1 and Lamar Jackson in Week 2 each scored at least 22.7 Fantasy points against the Bengals, but Cincinnati clamped down on its next three opponents in Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill and Joshua Dobbs, holding all three to 14.7 Fantasy points or less. The Bengals should make things tough on Smith, but I expect this game to be a shootout, which is why I like Smith as a low-end starter in all one-quarterback leagues. He only has one game this season north of 20 Fantasy points, which was Week 2 at Detroit (27.1), but I expect this to be another quality outing for Smith as he goes head-to-head with Joe Burrow.
